Progress timelapse video of a Flamingo in pastel pencils
"Flamboyant Flamingo"
A time lapse video created from progress photos taken while I was drawing this piece. I used Faber Castell Pitt Pastels and this was drawn on 100% cotton Bamboo pad.
The beautiful, vibrant colors of this gorgeous bird inspired me to draw this piece. From the very first layer to the last it was such a happy drawing. Once on a home makeover program I learned that orange is the one color that promotes creativity and gets the creative juices flowing, so maybe that was the reason for the happy vibes :)
I started the flamingo by laying down a rich yellow as the base color. From there I layered the more vibrant pinks and oranges. In the darker or shadow areas I used a beautiful burgundy pencil. I love using burgundy with orange, the two colors just play so nicely together!
That background was another favorite part of this drawing for me. Liberally laying down colors next to each other and then smudging it around on the paper to create the illusion of more flamingos in the distance. So much fun!
