How I painted bubbles in watercolor
"Bubblemaster"
This was actually the first time I attempted to paint bubbles. After posting this drawing to my Facebook page, someone asked me how I drew the bubbles. I couldn't think how to explain it and ended up making a collage of the in-progress photos explaining what I did, step-by-step. I'd like to share it with you today. Enjoy!
Here is the original painting:
Pic 1.: The Line drawing
Pic 2.: First bubbles were made by outlining them with a dark watercolor mixture and then some colored gel pens on the outlines. Since I already had the dark blue of the jacket, this was quite easy..
Pic 3.: Now I filled in some more of the background colors. The darker background help create the color of the inside of the bubble and also gives it a bit of a 3-d effect.
Pic 4.: I colored all my bubbles with a watercolor wash slightly darker than the background.
Pic 5.: Now for the fun part; adding the bright colors! Just look closely at your reference picture to see where the sun hits the bubble to create shine and sparkle.
Pic 6.: A close-up of the bubbles :)
I hope this helps you when you are painting bubbles! Feel free to let me know :)
